How to Launch a Wig Repair Business

Like you, many of my students and subscribers found their way to Zyri Hair to learn to ventilate or repair their personal wigs. Often, because they couldn’t find someone locally to perform repairs for them. This gap in the wig repair market is large and nationwide. This might have you contemplating learning how to start a wig repair business. Whether you’re looking to launch a side hustle or a full-time business, these tips will help you get started!

#1 Develop and practice your skills

I offer a variety of eBooks and courses to teach you everything you need to know to source quality hair and perform wig repairs. You can even learn how to build a new wig from scratch!

The most common repair clients are looking for is wig ventilation, so that’s an excellent place to begin. This is the process of adding strands of hair to the balding areas of the frontal hairline or closure part line. These are the two areas of a wig most prone to thinning and balding.

Learn to ventilate and extend the life of you and your client’s wigs!

As additional wig repair requests roll in, take more courses. And if you ever get stuck, I’m here for 1-on-1 virtual training.

#2 Network with local wigmakers

Thanks to social media, it’s never been easier to connect with local wig experts to grow your new wig business. Just hop on Instagram and search local hashtags. For example, if you live in Charlotte, type in #charlottewigmaker.

Then, send them a DM. If their email address is in their profile, you can also email them directly or contact them through the contact form on their website.

Don’t worry about being a bother, as many wig makers are so busy that they don’t have time to perform repairs. They are eager to identify quality ventilators to work with directly or to refer their clients to.

Also, leverage social media to create ads that are hyper-targeted to wig makers.

#3 Market your wig repair services to wig wearers

You can use the same strategy above to advertise your services directly to wig wearers! This time, utilize a wider range of wig-related hashtags, with and without your local area. Yes, local clients are great, but they limit your earning potential.

Also, consider creating landing pages or a full website that automates the process of securing your wig repair services.

Whether they are referrals from local wig makers or direct clients, ensure your clients:

  • Fill out a repair form to ensure you can perform their repair.

  • Sign a contract for your services. This may include submitting a deposit.

  • Mail their wigs to you with insurance to ensure their wig is protected.

  • Submit photos upon request.

These tips are the same strategies I’ve used to launch and grow my wig repair business, so I know they work! If you ever get stuck with a difficult wig repair, feel free to schedule a 1-on-one virtual coaching session with me and I’ll walk you through how to master the technique you’re struggling with.
